I've always been a fan of perfumes. Having owned several popular brands and scents- some as gifts and other I've bought for myself. I decided to dive deeper into the inner making of this beloved and rather expensive habit. Just as you have different styles of clothing for different occasions and seasons, you should also have a wardrobe of scents to match your moods.
But if you love perfumes as much as I do, you should have a idea of what should be worn when and try to find a scents that works well for you.
Floral: the most popular and largest of the categories. These are mainly created from flowers such as roses, orange blooms, carnations and jasmine. ( My favorite category). Florals are sometimes single note, but generally combine the scents of various flowers to create a classic feminine appeal. These scents are usually playful and uplifting but not too strong and overpowering. Some say they are best worn to weddings, church or meeting your boyfrieends parents (Yikes!) Events that are light at heart and offer refreshing feelings. Here are some of my favourite floral (worn personally) Beautiful( Estee Lauder), Summer (Kenzo) Happy by Clinque, Magnetism by Escada (I've actually owned this twice, its that good) are all good floral scents
Chypre or more popularly known as Woody: A notably woodsy-mossy mix, this type was given its name by French perfumer Francois Coty, who created a scent based on his impression of the island of Cyprus. "Chypre" simply is French for Cyprus and is pronounced "SHIP-ruh." Hints of bergamot, oak moss, citrus and patchouli enrich the sweet, earthy aromas. While more unisex than other fragrance categories, that's not to say these scents are masculine. They evoke a particular brand of no-nonsense femininity. Good for everyday and colder seasons, the woody scents bring warmth and comfort to those who smell it. Some popular woody scents are Gucci Rush by Gucci. Amber Splash by Marc Jacobs, Romance by Ralph Lauren
Citrus: Infused with the tangy essence of citrus fruits, these perfumes are lively and energetic. They are best enjoyed as a daytime delight, just the thing to wake you up in the morning.Wear a citrus perfume to meet your girlfriends for brunch . Naturally refreshing and uplifting, citrus blends work well for women who don't want to wear overpowering fragrance...CK one, Be Delicious by DKNY
Oriential: A heady mix of spices, amber, balsams and resins marks this type, suggestive of warmth and exotic sensuality. For those people who like to be noticed and be remembered after leaving. Usually people who wear this perfume are strong willed, outgoing, eager and sophisticated while staying mysterious at time. Some oriential perfumes are: Euphoria (Calvin Klein) Obsession (Calvin Klein), Jean Paul Gaultier ‘Classique’ by Jean Paul Gaultier,Flower by Kenzo
Green: Smelling of fresh leaves and newly-mown grass, the green fragrances are a natural and energetic group. These scents tend toward the unisex, so are best left on the shelf when you're dressing to impress a hot date. Save them for daytime instead, when their sporty, modern appeal makes them a great fit for any casual or outdoor gathering.
